There are lots of opportunities for children to engage with the performing arts at school. English lessons often incorporate drama as a hook for writing, a way of retelling familiar stories and to explore characters.
Each winter reception children create and perform in a traditional nativity in front of their families, this is often children’s first experience of being on stage and speaking to an audience.
In our final term year 6 take to the stage with their end of year production. Performances are usually musically themed. Children create the entire production from costume making, writing programmes, set construction and of course the acting and singing.
As well as theatrical performances, classes create weekly assemblies where short scripts are learnt and children share work they have been learning about in class. Class assemblies are performed to parents on a weekly basis.
