Last week year 6 went on a trip to the Science Museum to consolidate their learning around their electricity and light topics. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were able to see real world examples of big scientific concepts – experiencing rocket science firsthand was a particularly memorable moment.
This half term the children have been focusing on The Arrival, a graphic novel by Shaun Tan. This book is about a man who decides to leave his home country – leaving everyone he loves behind – in search of a different life, a better life. We have been following in the footsteps of this unnamed stranger as he attempts to decipher a totally new world.
Though this book does not have any words, it contains a great amount of detailed images that have been used to galvanize the children’s imagination. Have a look at some of the work we have produced.
The children spent a week at Into University. This was an opportunity for the children to see what further education is like. They spent the week as journalist and even recorded their own radio broadcast. It was an exciting, action packed week which culminated with a graduation at the prestigious Kings College University!
Hello and welcome to the 2018-19 school year. All of us here in the year six team are really excited to work with our new group of year six children, all parent’s and carers and of course, each other, to make this the best year ever!
Our topic this half term is the Ancient Greeks – an extremely interesting theme to begin the year with, giving us so many opportunities for learning in all areas.
