Year 4 Curriculum Newsletter Autumn 2
We hope you had a wonderful half term break and are ready for Autumn 2!
Topic– Our topic for this term is World War II. We will be researching and exploring what happened at this time. We will be discussing and thinking about how it would feel like to live at this time, including being evacuated. We will be visiting the Imperial War Museum to see some artefacts and develop knowledge further.
English – This term in literacy we will be developing our writing skills through looking at a variety of different texts, including a range of fiction and non-fiction. We will be focusing on writing poems and recounts. In spelling we will be learning suffixes, prefixes and apostrophes for contractions and we will be consolidating these through handwriting (letter join). During guided reading we will be exploring a range of fiction, non-fiction and poetry.
Maths-We will be looking at addition, subtraction, multiplication & division. Your child will continue to have a rocket test each Friday. If they complete the test successfully they will move up the rocket. They should practice the skill for the test they’re on as their homework.
Science– In science we will be introducing the topic of Sound. They will develop skills in knowledge, reasoning and classifying.
PE– Your child will have two PE sessions per week. Swimming will continue on Wednesdays (4JB) and Thursdays (4CS). The other slot is on Tuesday afternoon. This half term, our focus is dance, please make sure your child brings appropriate PE kit for their sessions.
